This Factory Navigation override module will unlock your Toyota and Lexus Factory Navigation system to allow for
full usage of all locked items (destination address input, points of interest, all navigation functions unblocked, phone number entry, audio playlists, etc.)
while your vehicle is moving. It does not allow for DVD video playback on your navigation monitor.
Installation is performed with a very simple 4 wire connection. You will need to be able to
a) get access to the back side of your factory navigation system, and b) splice into two wires on your factory navigation system.
You will be provided with the navigation override module and switch only, all instructions are provided on this page.
You will need several feet of wire, and some electrical tape. A few crimp connectors will be helpful during the installation.
Please confirm this module will work with your Toyota or Lexus Factory navigation system before purchasing as follows. Press the DEST button while driving
over 10 mph and notice how various features such as Destination Address, POI Name, POI Category, Memory, etc are dimmed and blocked from usage at this time.
Then taper your speed down until you are below 5mph. You will notice that those features will now light up and become "unlocked" when traveling
below this speed. Our Nav Override module will unlock these features via a switch while traveling at any speed and keep them unlocked for any legnth of time you desire.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Remove navigation unit to access the wiring behind it.
To see a detailed example of how this is accomplished on a 4th generation (2003-2009) Toyota 4Runner please click here.
2) Find a location where you will place your navigation module hidden inside the dash.
3) Locate the Vehicle Speed Sensor (SPD) wire going into the rear of the navigation unit and cut it.
Refer to the picture below for the typical location of the VSS wire in the navigation wiring harness.
We can provide Toyota and Lexus Navigation System wiring diagrams for most models
(Toyota 4Runner, Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Land Crusier, Prius, Rav4, Sequioa, Sienna, 2012 Tacoma, Tundra, Lexus RX350, GS350, GS430, GS460, GX460, GX470)
that will identify the exact wire color and location to cut.
Get a legnth of wire (18 to 24 wire gauge is fine) long enough to reach between the vehicle speed sensor wire and the location in which you will keep the override module.
Splice this wire into the end of the speed sensor wire that is attached to the vehicle harness (not the one still attached to the connector).
Connect the other end of this wire to the override module, screw terminal #2 (refer to picture below).
Get another legnth of wire (18 to 24 wire gauge is fine) long enough to reach between the vehicle speed sensor wire and the location in which you will keep the override module.
Splice one end of this wire into the navigation connector side of the cut speed sensor wire.
Connect the other end of this wire to the override module, screw terminal #3 (refer to picture below).
4) Install Switch
Install a single pole single throw 12 volt switch somewhere on the dashboard or center console.
Wire one terminal of this switch to a 12v positive power source that only has power when the ignition is on.
Wire the other side to the override module, screw terminal #1 (refer to picture below).
5) Connect module to ground.
Connect one end of a wire to screw terminal #4 (refer to picture below) and the other end to any ground source on the vehicle.
6) Reinstall navigation back into dash.
7) Try it out.
While driving, have your passenger turn the activation switch on. You will notice the previously dimmed (locked) features light up and are now available for use.
Please note that while the switch is activated, the navigation will not track your position as accurately as usual. This is because the
override module is informing the navigation system you are travelling at 3mph. When the switch is turned back off the navigation system will
begin accurately tracking your location within a few seconds.
